Moving to a new home is stressful, whether you're moving across town or across the country. Add small children to the mix and things can get a lot more stressful. Before the stress gets too out of hand, take a minute to do some last minute planning. With just a few carefully orchestrated plans, you can take some of the stress out of moving with little ones. Here are four tips that will help make life easier to move with small children.

Get Your Kids Involved

If your little ones want to help you pack, let them. Getting them involved will keep them occupied while you're busy doing the real work. Keeping them involved near you will also reduce your need to hunt for them each time they get too quiet. Give them a small box of their own and give them a specific area to pack. You can also give them a small bag and have them help you by picking up pieces of paper or other items that need to be thrown away. They'll be kept busy helping you and you'll know right where they are.

Make a Calendar

If your little ones are constantly asking about the moving date, set up a small magnetic calendar. Mark important deadlines on the calendar and allow them to move the magnet each day. This will help them keep track of important dates such as going-away parties and the actual date of the move.

Pack a Care Package for Your Kids

If your move is going to move you and your kids away from family members – such as grandparents or aunts and uncles – you can help relieve some of the emotional distress by putting together a care package for your kids. Have family members place small trinkets, pictures or letters in the package. While you're on the road to your new home, you can have your kids open the items that are in their packages.

Label Your Kids Belongings

Once you get to your new home, you're going to want to unpack your kid's belongings first. This will help them feel at home in their new surroundings. You can alleviate some of the work by clearly labeling your kids' boxes. The labels will allow you to find their belongings quickly so that they can start settling in.

If you're going to be moving with little ones, you want to make it as easy as possible. Use the tips provided here to keep things stress-free for you and your kids. Contact local moving companies for more information.
